Susan Roemer
Susan Roemer was born in Detroit, Michigan and received her B.F.A in Painting and Drawing from Arizona State University in Tempe Arizona in 1975 and a Masters in Fine Arts in Painting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1978.
Susan has been represented by several galleries throughout Florida, where she lived for 19 years before making Raleigh her home and has exhibited at the Raleigh Contemporary Gallery and in other exhibitions.
Susan received a North Carolina Regional Artist Grant in 1997-1998 for a Photography Series: "Cornice Brackets-Architectural Design in North Carolina.
Susan continues to work in both painting and photography medium.
There are no secret interpretations or hidden meanings in my work. Though difficult to execute, it is simple in it's intent. Searching for and finding the perfect subject, whether human or architectural is essential in creating my work, which has allowed me to utilize the camera as a way to capture and create mood, emotion and atmosphere within my paintings. This style of painting is how I am able to bring to life that which surrounds us, to represent a place or person in a moment in time that are often looked at but not seen. My interest in human character and architectural designs reflects each as a personality of its own. Their history and interesting perspectives tell a story that is disappearing from the fabric of our landscape. "The artist is both searcher and discoverer eager to discover the details of life."
